SAM BLOOM, DIRECTOR

Sam has 20 years of camping, physical education and youth services experience, including 15 years at EKC. He supervised several areas at the camp before serving as director from 1997 to 2003, and served as director of Herzl Camp in Wisconsin from 2004-2006. Sam has a Bachelors Degree in Health and Physical Education & Recreation from the University of Pittsburgh.  During the summer, Sam resides at camp, and he is committed to continuous overal limprovements at camp, which includes both program and facility. Sam and his wife Alona have two daughters; Jordyn and Casey.

ADAM BARON, ASSISTANT DIRECTOR

Adam has been a member of the Emma Kaufmann Camp family since 1990, when he attended EKC as a camper from Columbus, Ohio. As a full-time EKC staff member since 2005, Adam oversees camper recruitment, counselor and Unit Head supervision including the CIT/Israel experience, as well as overall programming and summer rental groups. Adam holds a Bachelor of Arts degree in History and Judaic Studies from the University of Cincinnati.

STEPHANIE BUZZA, ADMINISTRATIVE COORDINATOR

Stephanie Buzza joined our office in 2004. A local Pittsburgher, Stephanie graduated from Slippery Rock University with a degree in Business Management. Stephanie has a strong camp background and will often be the first contact when parents call in to the camp office. She also handles all aspects of registration and transportation for campers and their families.

ALEX SPECK, DIRECTOR OF SPECIALTY AREAS
A graduate of Penn State University, Alex works full time at the JCC in the recreation department as the Basketball Director. Alex also teaches sports classes for children ages 3-15 in a wide variety of activities including football, basketball, hockey and more. During the summer, Alex supervises all of the Specialists and supervisors of activity areas, and he is responsible for the daily scheduling of cabin and group activities.
 
JOAN ADDICKS, HEALTH CENTER DIRECTOR
Joan has been on our staff since 1998, and she is responsible for the hiring of doctors, nurses and nurses’ assistants. She also organizes the schedules and facilitates the daily routines of our medical program. Joan lives in Morgantown with her husband Bill and three children Ben, Justin, and Lauren, all of whom have attended camp for the past 10 summers.
 
PAULA DUGAN, HEALTH AND WELLNESS DIRECTOR
Paula has been at EKC for 12 summers. She helps counselors with individual camper issues like homesickness and other needs and she routinely communicates with parents on general camp and health issues. Paula is also responsible for our Bunk Meetings program, pairing each cabin group in camp with an administrative staff member who meets with them on a weekly basis. These meetings are designed to give the campers another  Person to talk with that they may not think of on their own and prompt discussion about how cabin groups are getting along with each other, their counselors and camp in general.
 
JEFF FREEDMAN, PH.D

The Jewish Community Center of Greater Pittsburgh in partnership with Jewish Family & Children’s Service provides Mental Health Consultants for Emma Kaufmann Camp. Jeff Freedman is a licensed psychologist who has been providing psychotherapeutic care to children, adolescents, adults and elders in the Pittsburgh area for the past 16 years. He has trained extensively in individual, couples and family therapy and specializes in treating depression, anxiety and childhood development disorders. He is the co-owner and clinical director of a group practice. He has taught psychology courses at Duquesne University, and he has been a consultant for the North Hills and North Allegheny School Districts, and Winchester Thurston.

Each week Dr. Freedman will meets with camp staff to discuss any concerns or challenges that they may face working with campers, providing counselors with the support and professional expertise they need to ensure a positive experience for our campers.
